THE NATURE WEEK

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Student Representative Council will organize a programme called 'The Nature Week'. It will be held from 26th - 30th July 2010. Details are as follows:

26 & 27 July 2010: UNITEN Bus Day

Students and staff are encouraged to use UNITEN bus services on that day. The main objectives are to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and as well as to reduce air pollution. Besides that, it's a great way to safe fuel as well.

28 July 2010: No Plastic Day

Students and staff are encouraged not to use plastic bags. There will be no plastic bags used on this date. Food stalls in UNITEN Campus will be supplied with recycled paper bags as replacement to plastic bags. Students can also get their 'hands on non-woven bags' which will be sold for only RM1.00 at our respective booths located near food outlets around campus and colleges. This bag can is useful to carry takeaway food purchased from any food outlets around and outside campus as well to replace the use of plastic bags. This effort can help to save the earth.

29 July 2010: UNITEN Hour

UNITEN Hour is similar to EARTH Hour. The electricity will be switched off for an hour from 8.00 -9.00 p.m. Students at Kelompok are encouraged to switch off the lights at their apartment in order to show support to UNITEN Hour. Not to forget to put extra caution if using candles. Students having dinner at Food Court 2 may join us to have candle light dinner at Food Court 2. The organizer will provide candles for this purpose. Have fun and at the same time support us in optimizing the usage of electricity in UNITEN.

30 July 2010: Tree Planting Day

The finale of Nature Week is Tree Planting Day. Students can purchase a fruit tree for RM40.00 and plant the tree at the allotted land near COIT. A tree can be shared by up to five students. The exciting part is, students' names will be written on a tag and the tag will be placed nearby the tree. Overall cost of the tree including the maintenance for four years is RM165.00 per tree. However, students only need to pay RM40.00 per tree as the university will subsidize the remaining cost.

To everyone out there, specifically to UNITEN students and staff, come and support our Nature Week. We need your continuous support and involvement to make the Nature Week a SUCCESS. So guys, let's Go Green.
